With help from the American government, Panama claimed its independence from Colombia. The conspiracy was successful because Colombian troops were run off or bribed. Support for this action came from the American President T. Roosevelt, and some important Panamanian figures. The former Colombian Department is now officially an independent republic. The reason for all of this political and social scandal is the construction and control over the canal that will be built through the country which will connect both oceans. The contract was given to the French, but it was halted because the company went under. Now it is up to an American firm to finish the job. However, the Colombian Congress unanimously rejected such a precipitated American intervention.

There is nothing more intimidating than traveling to a non-spanish speaking country and not knowing their native language. To begin with, all the usual stuff like: hotels, airports, restaurants, sights, etc, can be more complicated if you don’t master the International Language. In the same way to speak English opens doors to professionals who speak it. Many non-English speaking countries require it for graduate studies. As far as for job acquirements and advancement it is a good way to improve your income and job position. Many people are unemployed simply because they don’t speak English. The truth of the matter is, in almost every field you have to have some level of English to improve your knowledge and income. TV programs, entertainment, sports, news, and other media information are better in English. Search engines and tools on the World Wide Web, as well as , computer software and printed materials move so quick that most of the time, they have not been translated when a new edition is already out. English is also, the easiest language to learn, that is why it has become the International Language. It is easier to find a German, Russian, Chinese, Cambodian, even a french person who speaks English to make yourself understood in some other nation, simply because they prefer it to any other. So, if you are the kind of thriving, intelligent, business seeking person, you are in the right place to learn English. Just keep in mind that you need to practice, to be fluent, have an open mind in learning and don’t translate!

Everybody tries to make it home for a big meal on the 4th Thursday of the month. The first celebration of Thanksgiving took place in 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts when the pilgrims and the natives shared an autumn harvest feast. The natives taught them how to cultivate vegetables and how to store them for when harsh weather came around, so the next season the pilgrims had enough food to make it through. They gave thanks together for all the blessings and food they were able to have. They celebrated with corn, vegetables, fish and turkey. Nowadays, American families celebrate in a very similar way, turkey is the main attraction along with corn, salad, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, and bread. During this season about 45 million turkeys are sold. Also it is part of the tradition to watch an American football game and the parade that takes place in New York City. Thanksgiving is almost as big and important to American families as Christmas. Big sales events take place all across the country. On the other hand, Friday through out history has not had successful events either, because since the 14th century it has always been associated with markets crashing, natural disasters, failed businesses that start on a Friday. Their mission was to protect Christian
pilgrims during the crusades. Over the next two centuries they became very powerful and wealthy. King Philip secretly ordered them to be arrested because of their greed for power and wealth. This took place in France on October 13th 1307, Friday the 13th. Ever since, the superstition has grown stronger and it has even been customized to countries and regional needs. In Latin America it has been changed to Tuesday the 13th. It has also been exploited by the movie industry making films of a character named Jason Voorhees who drowned at Camp Crystal lake.
